Italian-American Heritage Month events.
2007
FIERI Boston will held its 3rd Annual Wine Tasting for Italian Heritage Month at Vinalia on October 4, 2007. More info to be posted here soon.
2006
In
2006, FIERI Boston invited Dr.
Bill Marchione to give a presentation on Italian Immigration
to Boston up to 1910. The event, which was held at the East
Boston YMCA, was informative and enjoyed thoroughly by all in
attendance.
During
the event, local vendors Tom Russo (of Al Russo Imports),
Donna Bottari (of Il Cocco di Mamma baby gifts), and Maria
Di Stefano (of Noddle Island Events) sold various kinds of
specialty items at our FIERI Boston "Mercatino". Thanks
to all of our vendors for helping make our event so successful!
FIERI
Boston would like to thank the following sponsors for their generous
support of our 2006 Italian Heritage Month Event:

2005
In
October 2005, FIERI Boston hosted a wine
tasting at Vinalia
Restaurant and Wine Bar in Downtown Crossing, Boston.

The
event was very well received and raised nearly $500 for the FIERI
Boston Scholarship Fund.
For
more information about this event, please visit FIERI
Boston's Wine Page.
2004
In
October 2004, FIERI Boston partnered with the All Things Sicilian
store in Peabody MA. A cooking demonstration
and information session about the Meditterranean diet was held at
the store. Also, attendees had the opportunity to purchase items
at the store for a discount. See the pictures below:
2003
In
October 2003, FIERI Boston and the Chelsea Creek Action Group co-hosted
a tour of the public sculpture Chelsea
Creek Clipper at the Condor St. Urban Wild in East Boston
MA. East Boston, one of Boston's predominantly Italian neighborhoods,
was once a site where many clipper ships were built in the 1850's
and the sculpture celebrates this historical heritage.
The
sculptor B. Amore, who grew up in East Boston, was on hand to anwer
questions and to explain more about the process of creating Chelsea
Creek Clipper.

Brumidi came from Italy to paint frescoes on the Capitol walls and
ceilings during its renovation and expansion in the 1850's.
After
the tour of the US Capitol, the group then visited the Italian Embassy
in Washington DC and presented a plaque to the Deputy Ambassador
from Italy.
Also
in October 2002, FIERI Boston, along with the Pirandello Lyceum
and Dante Alighieri Society, sponsored a showing of the documentary
Martin Scorsese: My Voyage to Italy. This documentary was
a retrospective of Italian Cinema from the postwar period to the
present. Several Italian directors (e.g. Fellini, Rosselini, etc)
were featured in this documentary. (For more information, please
visit FIERI Boston's Italian Cinema page.)
